Description

Working with Disability
Produced by Gwynn MacDonald

LPTW’s third Professional Seminar: Working with Disability is be the first in a series of professinal development seminars offered by the LPTW to bring disability more intentionally into our conversation and practice as theatermakers. This introduction was broad but rigorous, covering the nuts and bolts practical aspects of topics that include writing disabled characters, casting disabled actors, and identifying as disabled. Disability is the largest minority group in the nation and the least represented in entertainment. It is the most diverse minority group -- cutting across lines of age, ethnicity, gender, race, sexual orientation and socioeconomic status -- and the only one which anyone at any point in their life might become a member. It's part of our lives and if that's not reflected in our work and our working lives we are not reaching our potential as artist professionals. There was reading in preparation for attending. This seminar is for theatre artists who consider themselves nondisabled, disabled and everything in between.

THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF THIS EVENT WILL BE PRESENTED IN JANUARY 2024. The original date was December 18, 2024. Gwyn MacDonald's work with the Public Theatre until late December will be included in the January date.
